MEDICAL SCHOLARSHIPS
RAMUS
The Rural Australia Medical Undergraduate Scholarship (RAMUS) Scheme is currently helping nearly 500 students from rural areas to study medicine. Each scholarship provides $10 000 annually to help with travel, accommodation and living costs until graduation. For more information please contact 1800 460 440 (free call in Australia).
John Flynn Scholarship Scheme
The John Flynn Scholarship Scheme supports medical students to form a long-term relationship with a rural community. Students spend two weeks a year in the same rural community, during four years of their studies. The Scheme provides students with the opportunity to experience and appreciate the rewards of being part of the rural community, as well as introducing them to the specific challenges around the provision of medical care in a rural setting. Medical Rural Bonded Scholarships
One hundred Medical Rural Bonded Scholarships worth $20 000 (indexed annually) a year are available to new medical students prepared to commit to at least six years of rural practice, once they complete their basic medical and postgraduate training. HECS Reimbursement Scheme
Under the Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS) Reimbursement program new medical graduates who agree to work in a rural area can have one-fifth of their HECS debt reimbursed for each year of service they provide in a designated rural area. NURSING SCHOLARSHIPS
Rural Undergraduate Nursing Scholarship
The Commonwealth Undergraduate Rural and Remote Nursing Scholarship Scheme assists students with a rural background to study nursing. Up to 100 scholarships are available annually, each worth
$10 000 per year of study, to help students meet the cost of travel, accommodation and living costs for the length of their studies. The Scheme also offers an additional 10 scholarships for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students wishing to undertake a nursing degree.

Australian Remote and Rural Nurse Scholarship Scheme
The Australian Remote and Rural Nurse Scholarship Scheme provides professional development and post graduate scholarships for registered and enrolled nurses working in rural and remote areas. The Scheme is also available to nurses interested in training and practising in these areas. The Australian Remote and Rural Nurse Scholarship Scheme also offers 400 re-entry scholarships each year valued at up to $3000. These scholarships provide financial assistance to former nurses in rural areas who wish to return to the workforce and practice in the non-acute or private sector.
