Welcome
The Northern Rivers University Department of Rural Health (NRUDRH) is a multidisciplinary centre of excellence in health education and research relevant to the health needs of communities situated within the Northern Rivers region of NSW. We contribute to innovation in education, research and service development through collaborations with universities, health services and professional and community organisations.
The NRUDRH was established in 2001 as a department of the School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, University of Sydney and is run in collaboration with Southern Cross University. The Department is funded by the Australian Department of Health and Ageing (under the Regional Health Strategy) and the North Coast Area Health Service.
The NRUDRH aims to be a multidisciplinary centre of excellence in health education and research that is relevant to the health needs of our communities.
The NRUDRH's objectives are to:
Increase the number of medical, nursing and allied health students from Sydney and around the country who study and train in the Northern Rivers region;
Undertake and encourage world class health research in the Northern Rivers region, that is relevant to the needs of the local community;
Provide local health professionals access to the facilities of a world-class university; and
Contribute to the socal capital of the Northern Rivers community.
The NRUDRH is one of ten University Departments of Rural Health (UDRHs) established around Australia, and links to other UDRHs through its membership with the Australian Rural Health Education Network (ARHEN).
